What to wear in Morocco

In Morocco, where extreme heat, snow-capped mountains, and conservative religious culture intersect.

The Moroccan heat can be intense, reaching over 30°C by May and soaring to 40°C in July and August. Linen and cotton offer relief, although cotton struggles to dry in high humidity. Athletic wear crafted to absorb sweat and remain dry proves advantageous on humid days. It’s essential to note that attire like short shorts, crop tops, and tank tops are not deemed appropriate in Moroccan culture.

Evenings can bring unexpected chilliness in late spring, autumn, and winter in Morocco. It’s wise to pack a jacket or fleece to keep warm during these periods.

Comfortable footwear is a must for traveling in Morocco, even if hiking isn’t on your agenda. Paths often feature uneven terrain, dust, and debris, so sturdy walking shoes with good grip are advisable.

For trips to the High Atlas Mountains, bear in mind that evenings can be quite cool, even during spring and autumn. Bringing along a light fleece or jacket suitable for temperatures around 10°C is recommended

What should female travellers wear in Morocco?

Respecting local cultures and norms is integral to our travel philosophy, enhancing your interactions with local communities and environments.

While female travelers aren’t required to adhere strictly to local dress codes, it’s advisable to pack clothing that allows for modesty.

In urban areas, opt for knee-length pants or skirts and short-sleeved tops. Loose-fitting attire is ideal for comfort in Morocco’s heat, and overly tight clothing may draw unwanted attention. Consider bringing tunics and long-sleeved shirts for layering, particularly in conservative or rural regions.

When visiting mosques such as ( Hassan II ) in Casablanca , cover your arms and legs, and wear a scarf to cover your hair. It’s okay if the scarf isn’t perfectly styled – making an effort is what matters most.

Navigating cultural dress norms may seem daunting, but Moroccans are accustomed to foreign visitors and are generally understanding of fashion slip-ups. The key is to dress comfortably, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the culture without worrying about your attire.
